About Deedee
Deedee Cummings is the founder of Make A Way Media, LLC.
Make A Way Media and author Deedee Cummings donate more than 10% of all book sales to It Pays to Read and the Louisville Book Festival. These programs literally pay children to read, highlight the importance of literacy every day of the year, and donate hundreds of books each year to churches, schools, children, and families in need. Deedee is an attorney, therapist, and CEO of Abi, LLC in Louisville, Kentucky. Abi is an intensive therapy agency that works to prevent the placement of children in out-of-home care, such as foster care, hospitalization, and incarceration. She was also recently appointed by the Governor to the Office of Early Childhood.
Deedee is a graduate of a Historically Black College, Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bennett College is one of only two all-female HBCU’s in the country. She also earned a master’s degree and a law degree from the University of Louisville.
In her writing, Deedee focuses on sharing powerful, inspiring, and uplifting messages that remind us all it is never too late to begin again. Deedee encourages the children she works with to write as a way to process emotions, document their journey, and express themselves more clearly.
In addition to presenting on multiple topics around the country, Deedee donates hundreds of books and volunteer hours every year to families, children, churches, and the local school system.
She and her husband Anthony, live in Louisville, Kentucky with their three children Kayla (an actress in New York), Anthony (an MBA candidate), and Nicholas (in middle school).
