I’ve been on a whirlwind min-book tour to promote my newest book, In The Nick of Time, and one of my promotional stops was at a very special bookstore in Harlem.
Sister’s Uptown Bookstore & Cultural Center has been a staple in the Harlem community for almost two decades.
Janifer Wilson, owner, and visionary of this amazing store in Manhattan and opened her doors to me for a book signing on November 23rd. She didn’t know me, but she KNEW me. This woman has done so much for literacy and a love of reading and she took me in from Day One.
I watched her as she works in her store and shares her genuine love of books and knowledge with others and I’ve seen how she cared for me just because.
Just. Because.
I love this woman. It was an exceptionally special and meaningful day for me and you can read all about the day and the business as well, on my latest blog post HERE.
A Young Reader’s Excitement
I met this beautiful little boy at Sister’s Uptown Books and he loved the book In the Nick of Time. He told me his name is Nicholas too, just like my son. He opened the book and had a wide smile. I asked him why he was smiling and he turned the book to me and said, “THAT’S ME!” It means so much to see yourself in a story. All of a sudden the world has room for you!
This is 100% why I do what I do.
More Nick News
As I mentioned above, life has been hectic, crazy, and filled with unexpected opportunities for Make a Way Media and In The Nick of Time. Imagine my excitement when this message popped into my Inbox:
Hello Deedee!
I work at The Kelly Clarkson Show on NBC, and I saw the story about the book you wrote recently for your son! I would love to speak more about it at your earliest convenience if you are free and interested? Please shoot me an email and let me know when a good time to speak would be, or give me a call at XXXXX.
Best,

Ultimately, this opportunity was not meant to be, but more amazing ones are coming forward constantly. It’s like the old adage, “When one door closes, another one opens…” Details to come soon J

USA Today tweeted this on 11/30 and the tweet has been retweeted a LOT. #Blessed
The book is about a boy who saves Christmas – a common enough storyline – but this one is different. https://t.co/4lsrs877L0
