The Power of Making Connections in Unlikely Places

Life is about connections. Even more so if you are an entrepreneur. My entire entrepreneurial career has been blessed by unexpected and unlikely connections.

But, to know where you are going, you have to have a clear vision of how to get there. Sometimes, you can navigate this path to success alone, but I wouldn’t advise it!

“It takes a village” applies to more than raising kids.

The thing that has helped me the most is defining my message and knowing exactly what my dream is. This helps me communicate about what my dream is at all times. It is infused into who I am. It is a part of me and lives with me everywhere I go.

Connections with like-minded people will help to make your dreams a reality.

As a result, my Make A Way Media team is now made up of many people I have met along the way during my journey. And I met most of these wonderful people in unlikely and unexpected ways!

A mom I met through my son’s football team and an intern I hired to work with me at a completely different company more than a year ago.

A fellow entrepreneur and diverse book lover, I met through Multicultural Children’s Book Day.

Another team member is one of my daughter’s friends and the real estate agent who helped me find a property in another state.

My brilliant, talented illustrator, Charlene Mosely, is someone I found on Twitter!

These connections resulted in creating a team that will help propel Make A Way Media and DeedeeCummings.com to the greatness that I have always envisioned.

Throughout my publishing journey, the people who came into my life just when I needed their help are a testament to the power and blessing of meeting the right people at the right time.

Spend time living with your dream.

Revisit your strategy for success or business plan in your mind as often as possible.

Take notes about it.

Figure out what it is and what it is not.

Make it become a part of your life somehow every single day.

Nurture your dream, but don’t do it in a bubble.

Spend time making connections with people.

Real connections.

Talk with people who are supportive about it so you can get constructive feedback.

Being supportive does not mean that they do not have ideas and suggestions. Just listen to them. Reply thank you. You may not agree with their suggestions, but you do not want to be closed off. You never know where these ideas will take you.

I absolutely love the way our team has come together and we are diverse in more ways than I can count. You never know where you will meet your next collaborator or team member!
